-
Prep Your Nails
Start by cleaning your nails with acetone to remove any oils and previous nail polish. Make sure your nails are thoroughly clean and dry. -
Apply the Base Gel
Use a gel builder, like "Teddy" by The Gel Bottle, as your base layer. You don’t need a base coat, but ensure there are no oils on your nail bed. -
Cure the Base Layer
Cure the base layer for 99 seconds in a gel lamp to ensure it is fully set. -
Apply a Slip Layer
Apply a very fine second layer of gel as a slip layer. This layer should stay wet and not be cured. It acts as a guide for the next layer of gel. -
Build the Nail Shape
Using a larger bead of gel, apply it to the nail and use a patting motion to distribute it. Focus on building the apex of the nail, making it the fullest part. Work carefully to avoid the gel slipping into the side walls. -
Smooth and Shape the Gel
Turn your hand upside down to let gravity help guide the gel toward the center of the nail. Use a fine liner brush to smooth the gel into the side walls and shape the nail as desired. -
Cure the Nail
Once the nail is shaped, cure it fully in your gel lamp. -
Remove the Shine
Use acetone to gently remove the shine from the cured gel. This step ensures the ombre pigment adheres properly. -
Apply the Ombre Effect
Using a sponge, dip it lightly into white high-pigment gel (such as from Biosculpture) and gently tap it onto the nail. Build the ombre effect slowly, applying multiple thin layers until you achieve the desired gradient. Avoid applying too much product to prevent harsh lines. -
Top Coat and Finish
Once satisfied with the ombre, apply a generous layer of extreme shine top coat to seal in the design. Cure the nails in the lamp and enjoy your flawless, baby boomer nails!
